What is AILET 2028?
AILET full form: All India Law Entrance Test. NLU Delhi conducts it every year for its five-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program.
AILET 2028 is the cycle for students who finish Class 12 in 2027 or 2028 and want to join NLU Delhi in 2028. If you are in Class 11 now, this is your exam.
AILET is a separate exam from CLAT. You can write both, and many students do. Read our CLAT 2028 guide to see how the two compare.
AILET 2028 Important Dates
The dates below for 2027 are official. The AILET 2028 dates are my expectation based on the earlier cycles. Please do not treat them as final.

AILET 2028 Eligibility
The rules below are from the AILET 2027 notice. NLU Delhi usually repeats them, but check the AILET 2028 notice once it is out.
| Criteria | B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) |
|---|---|
| Qualification | Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent |
| Minimum marks | 45% General, 42% OBC, 40% SC/ST/PwD (as reported) |
| Appearing in Class 12 | Allowed to apply and write the exam. You must meet the marks rule as per the notice. |
| Upper age limit | No upper age limit |
| Where to apply | Only on the NLU Delhi official website |
Is the AILET 2028 Pattern Changing? The Honest Answer
Short answer: no change has been announced. Here is what we know and what we do not.
My advice is simple. Prepare for the current pattern and watch the official notice in mid 2027.
AILET 2028 Syllabus: The Three Sections
NLU Delhi gives the section names, not a chapter list. The topics below come from past papers, so use them as a guide.
English Language (50 questions)
This is a reading section. Expect passages with questions on meaning, tone and inference, plus vocabulary and grammar in context.
The mix can change from year to year. Build your reading speed early.
Current Affairs and General Knowledge (30 questions)
Recent events dominate, with static facts linked to them. Past papers touched economy, civics, history, geography and international organisations.
Keep short notes of the last 12 months and revise them every week.
A NOTE FOR CLASS 11 STUDENTS
Logical Reasoning (70 questions)
This is the biggest section. It carries 47% of the paper. Think arguments, assumptions, conclusions, syllogisms, and principle-fact questions where the rule is given in the question.
You do not need to know law beforehand. You need clean, careful reasoning. Read our Logical Reasoning habits guide for a start.
A NOTE FOR CLASS 11 STUDENTS
START EARLY FOR AILET, CLAT AND SLAT
The problem: you have over a year, but no clear plan, and the three exams feel like three separate mountains.
The solution: TITAN 2028, our 15-month CLAT, AILET and SLAT program, with mentorship from current NLU students and one-on-one mentorship with me.
AILET vs CLAT: What Is Different?
| Feature | AILET (UG) | CLAT (UG) |
|---|---|---|
| Colleges | NLU Delhi only | Many NLUs |
| Questions | 150 | 120 |
| Sections | 3 | 5 |
| Duration | 120 minutes | 120 minutes |
| Negative marking | -0.25 | -0.25 |
| Style | More short, direct questions | Mostly passage-based |
| 2027 exam date | 13 December 2026 | 6 December 2026 |
The gap between the two exams is only one week in this cycle. Our 6-day plan between CLAT and AILET shows how to use it.
AILET vs CLAT: Which Is Better, and Which Is Tougher?
Neither is “better” for everyone. AILET gets you only NLU Delhi. CLAT opens many NLUs.
Students often find AILET tougher on time, because it has 150 questions in the same 120 minutes, and Logical Reasoning is heavier. CLAT is tougher on long passages.
My honest advice: prepare for both, and decide your priority after you see your mock scores.
AILET 2028 Section-Wise Weightage
| Section | Questions | Marks | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 50 | 50 | 33% |
| Current Affairs and GK | 30 | 30 | 20% |
| Logical Reasoning | 70 | 70 | 47% |
| Total | 150 | 150 | 100% |
Tie-break rule: as reported for the UG paper, higher marks in Logical Reasoning come first, then age, then a draw of lots. Check the notice for the final rule.
So Logical Reasoning decides both your score and your tie-breaks. Give it your best hours.
AILET 2028 Application Form, Fee and Process
This is the AILET 2027 process. AILET 2028 should be very similar.
| Step / Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Mode | Online only. No paper form, no posting. |
| Fee | Rs 3,000 General/OBC/EWS/Foreign. Rs 1,000 SC/ST/PwD. BPL SC/ST exempted. A few sites show slightly different amounts, so the portal fee is final. |
| Steps | Register, fill the form, upload documents, pay the fee, submit |
| Do not wait | Technical issues are not accepted as a reason for a late form |
AILET Admit Card, Answer Key and Result
These steps are from the AILET 2027 cycle. The 2028 steps should be similar.
- Admit card: released on the NLU Delhi portal a few weeks before the exam. Download it, print it and carry a valid ID.
- Answer key: as reported, a provisional key comes soon after the exam, with a window to raise objections. The final key follows.
- Result: comes after the final key, followed by counselling and seat allotment.
Dates change every year, so follow only the official notice.
How Hard Is AILET? Seats and Competition
NLU Delhi has just 110 merit seats for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in the AILET 2027 cycle. More than 22,500 candidates wrote the UG paper in AILET 2026, as reported by Careers360.
That means a small number of seats for a very large group. A small mistake in a section can change your rank.
How to Prepare for AILET 2028
- Start with Logical Reasoning. It is 47% of the paper. Practise daily, and keep a log of every wrong answer.
- Read every day. 30 to 40 minutes of newspaper or editorials builds both English and GK.
- Keep GK short. One-line facts and monthly revision beat big books.
- Practise for speed. 150 questions in 120 minutes is tight. Solve AILET previous year papers and take timed AILET mock tests, section by section, then full length.
- Skip when unsure. Four wrong guesses cancel one right answer.

AILET 2028: Frequently Asked Questions

NLU Delhi has not announced the AILET 2028 date yet. It is expected in December 2027, on a Sunday, as AILET 2027 is on 13 December 2026. Please confirm on the official NLU Delhi notice.
What is the AILET 2028 exam pattern?
Based on AILET 2027 and with no change announced, it is 150 MCQs in 120 minutes: English 50, Current Affairs and GK 30, Logical Reasoning 70. A right answer gets +1 and a wrong answer gets -0.25.
What is the AILET 2028 syllabus?
NLU Delhi names three sections and does not publish a chapter list. English is passage-based, Current Affairs and GK covers recent events and static facts, and Logical Reasoning includes arguments and legal principle-fact questions. No prior legal knowledge is needed.
What is the eligibility for AILET 2028?
As per the AILET 2027 notice, you need 45% in Class 12 (42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST/PwD as reported), and there is no upper age limit. Students appearing in Class 12 in the exam year can apply. Please read the AILET 2028 notice for the final rule.
How many seats are there in AILET?
In the AILET 2027 cycle, NLU Delhi offers 110 B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) seats on merit, plus 10 seats for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO candidates, so 120 in all. The AILET 2028 seat matrix will come with its notice.

Yes. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, and an unattempted question gets 0. With 150 questions, guessing without reasoning can hurt your score.
What is the difference between AILET and CLAT?
AILET is only for NLU Delhi. CLAT is for many NLUs. AILET has 150 questions in 3 sections, while CLAT UG has 120 questions in 5 sections. Both are offline and have -0.25 negative marking.
What is the AILET full form?
AILET stands for All India Law Entrance Test. It is conducted by National Law University, Delhi for admission to its law programs.
Is AILET tougher than CLAT?

When does the AILET admit card and answer key come out?
The admit card is released on the NLU Delhi portal a few weeks before the exam. A provisional answer key is reported to follow soon after the exam, with an objection window. Please follow the official AILET 2028 notice.
Can I prepare for AILET 2028 and CLAT 2028 together?
Yes. The skills overlap a lot: reading, GK and reasoning. The extra work for AILET is speed on 150 questions and a stronger Logical Reasoning section. Our TITAN 2028 program covers CLAT, AILET and SLAT together.
